Inclusion at BJBE
In connection with our Jewish values and our mission, the Inclusion Committee is dedicated to creating a welcoming and accessible community for people with disabilities and their families. The purpose of this group is to ensure an inclusive worship, educational, and social experience in a supportive environment. The committee is open to all who are interested. Visit our Accessibility Center, located at the entrance of the main sanctuary, to find resources for individuals with auditory, visual, and tactile needs. Items include assistive hearing devices, reading glasses, large print prayer books, noise-canceling headphones, weighted lap pads, oral and general sensory tools, and social stories. All are available to borrow during services.
Additionally, we have wheelchairs and walkers at our front door entry.

LGBTQ+

BJBE is a proud congregational participant in the Keshet Shivyon program. Staff, clergy, and lay leaders collaborate and learn with the Keshet professional team to identify and implement concrete changes that support best practices in LGBTQ+ inclusion and belonging.
Our clergy officiate same-gender marriages and perform baby naming ceremonies for the children of LGBTQ+ parents. BJBE extends our values of inclusion to anyone who wishes to celebrate lifecycle milestones with us, regardless of sexuality or gender. BJBE has served as host to PFLAG since the 1980s. PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. While not sponsored by our congregation, all confidential meetings are open and available to our congregants and the members of our community at no charge. Walk-ins are always welcome. PFLAG's Deerfield chapter meets monthly. |

The annual Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Observance is sponsored by the Religious Leaders United. This service is a back-to-basics celebration of the holiday in which worship congregations throughout Deerfield and Highland Park are invited to join in prayer as a greater community.
