High Holy Days

Dear BJBE Community, There is something deeply moving about the High Holy Days. The music. The liturgy. The haunting melody of Kol Nidre, the quiet moments when the sanctuary seems to hold our prayers, our memories, our hopes, and even our tears. These days invite us to return to what matters most: to God, to Torah, to our people, to Israel, to one another, and to the best version of ourselves. This year is especially meaningful as we begin a new chapter together with a new clergy team. We feel the excitement and the sacred responsibility of this moment as we step into this next chapter with humility, hope, and deep gratitude for all who have built BJBE into the extraordinary community it is today. We honor the past, cherishing the rabbis, cantors, educators, leaders, volunteers, families, and generations whose love and devotion have shaped this congregation. And we embrace the future with open hearts. The High Holy Days remind us that we are always becoming. As the prophet Isaiah teaches, “Enlarge the site of your tent.” Our task is to make room: room for old friends and new faces; room for questions and faith; room for tradition and imagination; room for every soul seeking connection. Whether you are a lifelong BJBE member, returning after time away, or joining us for the very first time, please know this: there is an open seat for you—a place for your voice, your story, your family, your prayers, and your hopes. As we enter 5787 together, may we celebrate God with gratitude, Torah with passion, Israel with love, and community with open arms. |

Important Information
TICKETS - memberS in good standing AND NON-MEMBERS
High Holy Day tickets can be ordered online through Eventbrite for your immediate household (including unmarried children under 30 years old, living at home or in school) and guests. Tickets will be emailed to you from Eventbrite. If you do not see your ticket(s) within an hour, please check your junk/spam email folders.
Each ticket will contain a unique, one-time use QR code. (A QR code is a barcode that stores information and can be read by a digital device, such as a mobile phone.)
If you are unable to use the Eventbrite platform to order tickets, please download the Tickets (print form) and return the completed form to the office by Monday, August 10. If you have any questions, please call the office at 847-940-7575 during regular business hours.
Every member of your household is required to have their own ticket for each service. You will have a separate code for each service and you can store the tickets on your mobile device or print them at home and bring them with you to services. We will accept both mobile or paper tickets for entry. When you arrive for services, ushers will scan the tickets and welcome you in.

Non-members tickets go on sale on Tuesday, August 11. We welcome you to apply this payment towards your membership dues if you join BJBE by December 1, 2026.

PRAYER BOOKS
The High Holy Days machzor will be used during Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah (during the Traditional Service), Kol Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur (during the Traditional Service), and Concluding Services.
While a limited number of prayer books are available at BJBE, we encourage members to bring their own copy of the Mishkan Hanafesh. The two-volume set is available for $55 in the BJBE office, or you can order directly from the publisher.

Parking
Please be vigilant as traffic patterns may be different than normal. As you navigate our parking lots please use extra caution - Traffic Control Volunteers will be present and provide direction for which lots have available parking and where to safely cross. Help us keep everyone safe by following direction from our Volunteers
BJBE Parking Lots (1201 and 1141 Lake Cook Road) will be reserved for handicapped parking and security vehicles. If you require handicapped parking, please make sure your handicapped placard is visible to the parking attendants.
Limited parking is available at Rochelle Zell Jewish High School next door. Our neighbors at Rochelle Zell have kindly opened their lot for us for parking - Spots are limited so please consider carpooling if possible. No parking is allowed on the soccer field or on the access road next to Rochelle Zell’s parking lot.
Please allow ample time when parking to ensure you arrive on time for services. When services conclude, please exit in a safe and quick manner to allow for those attending the next service time to park and enter the building.
