Shalom BJBE! Welcome to the beginning of 5773 and the start of a great year! We have a ton of fun things going on with the Senior Youth Group (SYG). This year we are planning on continuing with some of our long standing events as well as some fun new ones. Check out the calendar for a full listing of all the events. Some of the highlights are a Bulls game in December, our 2 annual shul-ins in the winter and spring, and our winter weekend retreat to OSRUI in February.

The SYG will still be having lounge nights for the youth groupers to come and hang out at the synagogue. Lounge nights will be every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm in the youth lounge. There is always tons of snacks and people just relaxing. And the best part is…THEY ARE FREE! Just show up. If you need to leave early or show up late, feel free to drop in, even to just say hello.

We also encourage BJBE’s teenagers to get involved in NFTY-CAR, Chicago Area’s Reform Jewish youth group. NFTY-CAR has various events throughout the year where Jewish teenagers from around the Chicago area come to learn about Judaism, participate in social action activities, have fun, and meet other great Jewish teenagers. What is SYG?

BJBE's Senior Youth Group (SYG) is an active Jewish community open to all of our high school students. SYG empowers its members to become leaders both within the synagogue and out in their communities. Our Senior Youth Group is run almost entirely by an elected board of teenagers. This group of motivated leaders plans, publicizes and executes each event with guidance from our advisor and clergy. 

SYG meets for weekly Lounge Nights (Thursdays 7-9PM), monthly events, and an annual weekend retreat at OSRUI where we learn, grow and have fun together as a chevra. We are also members of NFTY-CAR region where we are working on increasing our presence. Senior Youth Group is a great opportunity for the teenagers of BJBE to continue to explore their Jewish identities in a fun and supportive environment.
