Men's Club Happenings - August 2010
Our 1st Annual Golf Outing was cancelled again because the golf course was flooded. However, the 3rd time’s the charm, so it has been rescheduled for August 15th at the Sunset Valley Golf Club in Highland Park (noon warmups). Fee of $65 includes greens fees, cart, your choice of hot dog or burger, and non-alcoholic beverage. Prize for lowest score. See the flier or contact Bob Hillman, 847-962-1586, careervideos@hotmail.com.
Men's Club is sponsoring a father/child outing to a Schaumburg Flyers baseball game on Sunday, August 29. We have great seats next to the Flyers dugout, rows 1-3. Tickets are only $11 each. Responses are due by 8/16. Please see our flyer in on the Men's Club, or contact Jack Goldberg (jhg63@sbcblobal.net).
The Men's Club will be cooking at the Congregational Picnic on Sunday, 9/12 (the first day of Sunday School). We are always looking for people to help out. Additionally, Men’s Club has been challenged by the Senior and Junior Youth groups to a softball game. It should start at around 1 pm. If interested in playing, or in cooking, please contact me at FredBeslow@GMail.Com.
We are having a Monday Night Football event at the Ram in Wheeling on Monday, September 27. This will include appetizers, dinner, and fun (the Bears will crush Green Bay!!!). You are going to watch the game anyway, and it is always better to watch in a group. The flier is on the Men's Club page of the temple web site (bjbe.org) under Community > Men's Club > Events, or contact David Dosik (mjfa1077@yahoo.com).
Father/child Sukkot EventThe Men's Club is helping support this new event to introduce the holiday and the traditions. Even if you are not going to build your own sukkah, you (and your kids) can help other congregants with theirs! The events line up as follows:
- Sunday 8/22 - Learning: (a) text study on building a sukkah and (b) demonstration and hands-on training for building a sukkah. Order forms will be available for participants to purchase materials to build their own sukkah, along with lulav and etrog.
- Sunday Sept 19 - Community sukkah building day. Pick up materials, build sukkahs at home with help from Men's Club/other volunteers.
- Sunday Sept 26 - BJBE community sukkah walk - progressive lunch/snacks, etc. at BJBE congregants' sukkahs.
Look for the information on the temple web site or contact Steven Weinstock at steven@weinstock.org.
And, of course, Men’s Club will be building the temple's sukkah on Monday, 9/20, 4 pm. This is both a spiritual and fun time. If you would like to help, contact Marshall Drues (mpdrues@yahoo.com).
Study, Supper, & Stoller will restart on October 26, 7:30 pm. The first 3 sessions will cover the relationship between sports and Jewish identity, and how this relationship has evolved over time. We'll consider Jewish attitudes toward sports from the ancient period to the modern world. Everyone is invited, and, of course, dinner is included. See the flier or contact me at FredBeslow@GMail.Com.
To see all the most current goings-on at the Men's Club, visit our page on the temple web site by going to Community | Men's Club. It has all the latest information, fliers about our upcoming events, and more. And see pictures of all the Men's Club events in the temple picture gallery.
Better yet, join the Men's Club, make new friends, have fun, and support our activities and the temple. Or try it out-come to one of our open meetings (watch for details in the weekly e-mailer). This is where we field new ideas, and start the planning process for our events. I am looking forward to seeing you there!
