Men's Club Happenings - May 2013
As we wind down another successful year of programming, we have to look back on some of our highlights this past year:
We started the year with a welcome general meeting in September. This gave us an informal chance to get to know some of our newer members and catch up on our summers. After the High Holidays, the fall brought us a 4-part Talmud Study series, led by Rabbi Stoller. As usual, these were well attended, thank you Rabbi Stoller. October we huddled together to cheer the Bears onto victory as we barbecued in the rain, but had some fun. The men’s club hosted our first Daddy-Daughter Dance December 2nd. Though a new event for us, a slower start turned out being a fun and exciting time for all who attended.
The New Year brought our first joint fundraiser with Sisterhood at the end of January, “BJBE Rocks”. Men’s Club was able to work hand and hand and learn from the Sisterhood some of the intricacies of putting on a massive event. With the help of Gary Schaffel and his NOT FOR PROFIT band, the event drew about 250 guests. And if you didn’t have fun, you weren’t there! February brought us our 2nd annual Poker tournament, always a lot of fun and truly a success, thank you to all who made it so successful. February also began our Spring SS & S series. This featured the ever-popular Ezra Kedar and Bill Haase. Both, truly enjoyable and educational. In March, we held our “How to Lead a Seder”. This year Marcus Newman led it and you don’t have to be in his presence long before you feel his passion for Judaism. Now, we look forward to our Annual Golf Outing, June 28th. Our goal is to surpass the almost 45 golfers we had last year. Help us get there and have a great time.
It’s been almost 2 years and although my time as Men’s Club President is coming to a close, I look forward to welcoming Todd Cohan in as the new President. He is young, energetic, and excited and with his new board, I know he will continue the momentum we’ve gained these last few years. A quick thank you to all who have been there to support Men’s Club.
