Cantor Alexandra Kurland

Cantor Alexandra Kurland (she/her) is honored to be part of the clergy team of BJBE.

A native of Highland Park, Cantor Kurland was ordained by Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in May 2020. She is also a proud graduate of Wellesley College, where she earned honors in her major of Music, as well as a minor in Italian Studies. Cantor Kurland worked in music organizations, including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Ravinia Festival, before deciding to pursue the path of the cantorate. Cantor Kurland has been privileged to serve as cantorial intern to the communities of North Shore Congregation Israel (her home community), North Country Reform Temple in Glen Cove, NY, and Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York, and chaplain intern at The Mount Sinai Hospital. While in cantorial school, she was involved with the Worship Working Group, Kallah planning team, and the HUC-JIR Soup Kitchen. In a desire to deepen her relationship with Israel, Cantor Kurland was an iFellow with The iCenter and a member of the inaugural cohort of ARZA Fellows. She was a recipient of the Anne Louise Barrett Fellowship through Wellesley College. Along with Cantor Julie Staple of Am Shalom, Cantor Kurland serves as co-President of the Reform Cantors of Chicago, and was recently named as part of JUF's 36 Under 36: Double Chai in the Chi list.
