Forgiveness is not an emotion

that spontaneously bubbles forth with love and understanding,

erasing all evil and wounds.

That would be impossible, impractical. Even silly.

We tend not to forgive and forget.

Rather,

forgiveness is a spiritual state. A way of being in the world,

a discipline like the

dancer who endures the pain of practice:

toes bleeding muscles aching, hands reaching upward,

soul flying with grace and joy.
